El mundo cambiara: L' Ambigú Bar

I have always loved Santa Eulàlia, the pure gothic building with its grim gargoyles as well as the plaça, bathed in light shadows by the tall sycamore trees. But what I like most in this neighborhood is the secluded terrace behind the church where L’Ambigú Bar serves extraordinary pintxos and tapas. Try the tartar de aguacate y fresas con langostinos (avocado and strawberry tartar with shrimps), or pick a couple of platos directly from the bar – you cannot go wrong. Most people prefer a table on the patio, but I fancy the interior just as much.

Have a look at Alejandro Vizcarro’s paintings – his estudi d’art Zavella25 is just around the corner – or the blank TV screen telling you that if you change your way of looking at the world, the world will change its look. Cristobal Rodriguez opened the bar three years ago, his partner Eva Martin Soler is responsible for L’ Ambigú’s Facebook site, valued for its witty pictures. Manel is the one singing while carrying food and drinks from the bar to the tables, and when he and Aina tend the bar together, their good spirits are really contagious. That’s why I’m always happy to come by, sometimes only for a fast drink.

In the narrow basement, there is a small stage and in the beginning, they also had live acts playing, hence the trumpet in the L’ Ambigú sign. So I always associate this place with music – and secretly find myself referring to it as “The Trumpet” when I actually mean: L’ Ambigú.
