Baywatch: Nautilus - Estilo Palma

The Museu De La Mar was closed, unfortunately, but its observation deck definitely made up for the steep ascent from the old port. What a view! When I scanned the bay and coastline I spotted a concrete structure clinging to the cliff like a swallow’s nest, just beneath swank Jumeirah Hotel Port Sóller. Curious to find out about it I walked over – and discovered Nautilus, a very special restaurant.

Make sure to arrive before sunset because the view from Nautilus’ terrace is stunning and absolutely unique. And don’t be surprised when everybody leaps up at the same time to take pictures of the big glowing ball diving into the orange sea. Nautilus’ menu though is just as alluring. We treated ourselves to tuna tartar on guacamole, sesame and soya, followed by filet of seabass with sautéed vegetables and grilled sole and salad. The fish couldn’t be any fresher, and the warm, salty breeze and the scent of the pine trees were mingling perfectly with the food. For dessert we were spinning some sailor’s yarn over our café solos, inventing stories about the boats heading towards the sheltered bay late in the evening while the first fishermen left for a long night on sea.

I can imagine how Andrej Eisenfeld fell in love with this place on his first visit to Port de Sóller about 15 years ago. Fifty meters above the ocean, the waves are breaking against the rocks to your feet and you can see all the way to Far del Cap Gros, the light house of Port de Sóller. Andrej seized the opportunity to take over the former snack bar, together with his team he turned it into the fabulous restaurant it is today.
