Imagine a taqueria somewhere in Mexico. The familiar smell of melted cheese, warm wheat tortillas and spicy salsas in the air, and tables lively with chat and laughter. In between, trays of cool drinks and plates of hot dishes. In fact, you don’t have to cross the Atlantic for this. You can have it all at L’Informal Tacos in Palma.

Among my favorites are the cochinita pibil tacos, a traditional Mexican slow-roasted pork dish from the Yucatán peninsula. Chef Christian Piedrahita nicely marinates the pork with chili and orange. Served with lime cream and pickled red onion, the hot stuff simply melts on your tongue. And then the tostada with marinated red tuna, guacamole and fresh herbs. Or you go for quesadillas. If you like it extra spicy, just add salsas and toppings. The best side order, however, is a margarita. 

Sergio Di Bella and Javier Fernandez, two familiar faces in Palma’s gastro scene, have furnished their restaurant stylish yet minimalist. Light wood and concrete emphasize the bright and friendly atmosphere. Through the large windows of L’Informal Tacos you can observe life in the Gerreria neighborhood. Or look in from the outside and, with a little luck, spot a free table.
