Mouthfeeling has always been my favorite word when it comes to something really delicious. The sensation of your first bite in a burger, for instance. When the greasy cheese is melting on a hot patty, mingling with a spicy salsa, a fruity slaw and a thin slice of grilled onion. Like the Pica Pica Caramba at Badal Burger, one of Palma’s most vibrant burger joints. At night people often wait in line to get one of the coveted tables.
The burgers all have catchy names: Un día de chimenea, ¡Ay Dios mío!, Un somni blau or Yummy Mummy. Go for the Hamburguesa del Dia or design your own al gusto. Choose the type of bread, the patty, how you want the meet done, or if you prefer the vegetarian option. And add your favorite cheese and toppings. The menu is your order sheet that allows for multiple choices as well as single dishes. Sometimes it’s really funny to watch people around a table sticking their heads together in concentration to create the most fancy burger variations. The Pulled Pork Sandwich at Badal Burger is heavenly, too, and don’t forget to tick off patatas.
Badal is the contraction of Battenberg and Nadal, Patrick’s and Marga’s surnames. The two met when they were both working at the restaurant of Patrick’s brother Marcel in Port de Sóller. Marga had studied hotel management and learned to become a sommelier, Patrick was a trained chef. Soon, they became a couple and made first plans for their own eatery. Badal Burger opened about two years ago just opposite Mercat de l’Olivar. It has been buzzing with locals from the very first moment. Yet despite the fast pace Patrick and Marga are most endearing hosts.
