Little Miss Sunshine: Bar Rita

There are many beautiful plaças in Palma, and every one of them has its own character. Plaça Llorenç Bisbal for instance, bright and laid-back during the day, always reminds me of touching film nights under the open sky. With stars above and before you on the big screen set up in front of Nostra Senyora dels Socors, the dignified church on the edge of the Gerreria. Sitting in the crowd of open air cineasts happily anticipating the show – „Searching for Sugarman“ maybe, or „Little Miss Sunshine“ – with una cana y un bocadillo (they come in a package on movie nights) there is no place you’d rather be.

Apart from hosting cine a la fresca Bar Rita is hub and heart of the barrio and a great place to get together with friends, have a drink or a few tapas. Whether you find a place outside, along the beautiful tiled bar or at one of the small tables, you are sure to meet a vecino or make new acquaintances. And on Tuesday nights, of course, Rita is among my favorites on Ruta Martiana.

I am particularly fond of this neighborhood – it’s the people who make all the difference. The people who live here, and places like Bar Flexas, Moltabarra, Plaer Natural or Ca La Seu – and always Bar Rita, that make it so special.
