Ca n'Ela: Vegan Cuisine

Located in the bustling Lonja neighborhood Ca n‘Ela is Palma’s new go-to place for excellent vegan cuisine. With its leafy walls and open Mares the restaurant is stylish and cozy at the same time. Chef Ella and her daughter Andrea make you feel comfortable right away. And the food is a feast for the palate as well as the eyes.

You can taste all the sun of Mallorca in the tomato salad with basil cheese and herbal oil. And I am not sure I have ever had zanahoria like the one at Ca n’Ela. The roasted carrot and thyme pate with Sicilian bread is just heavenly. And I’m still flashed by the raw beetroot ravioli with chopped walnuts and fried capers, one of Ella’s signature recipes.

Ca n’Ela offers a more casual yet great vegan lunch menu. In the evening though you can expect no less than a vegan fine dining experience. For more than twenty years, Ella had been chef at famed Bon Lloc, the pioneer of vegetarian and vegan cuisine in Palma. Where Andrea also used to work for the last ten years.

When Bon Lloc had to close due to the pandemic early this year, the two women decided to open their own restaurant. They found that beautiful space on Carrer de la Mar. The maritime character is reflected in the interior design on the upper floor. And the large windows on the ground floor offer great views of street life.

I love to sit back and have a café solo with my desert. Which, by the way, would be reason enough to have lunch or dinner at Ca n’Ela. If you are lucky and they can spare some time, Ella or Andrea come around and have a chat with the guests.
