More than a gallery: CCA Andratx

One of the most exciting art places on Mallorca is hidden on the southwest tip of the island. Right at the foot of the Tramuntana CCA Andratx is a mecca for both creators and lovers of contemporary art. Now, for the 25th anniversary of Palma’s Nit de l’Art, CCA presents an extraordinary exhibition.

„Insights“ features about 90 works of the National-Bank’s collection focusing primarily on the famous Düsseldorf Art Academy. Among them pictures and sculptures by Jörg Immendorff, Markus Lüpertz, Joseph Beuys, and Imi Knoebel. On display in the Kunsthalle, the heart of the center.

CCA Andratx also celebrated a jubilee last week. Twenty years ago, Patricia and Jacob Asbaek moved from Copenhagen to Mallorca and founded the Centro Cultural Asbaek. Designed to be a gallery, museum and workshop in one. Soon the privately run house of art became one of the most prestigious addresses for contemporary art lovers and collectors. And for young artists in residence. For a couple of weeks they live and work in one of the four studios at CCA free of charge.

Like Victoria Marques Pinto. Her „Imminent Impressions“ convey an intense sense of the Mediterranean. However, the pictures confront you with a severe environmental threat. The artist got both inspiration and material for her works on the beaches of the Balearic Islands. Really worth seeing, the show still runs through November 27.

After exploring the CCA’s many beautiful spaces, garden and the light flooded courtyard don’t miss the lovely café. A peaceful place, with its shady terrace directly opening up to the mountains. Enjoy a tostada and a cool drink, or have a coffee with a piece of homemade cake. And maybe meet one of the artists currently staying at CCA Andratx.
