La Mujer de Verde Palma: Veggie at its Best

La Mujer de Verde sounds familiar to you? Actually, the song title is talk of the town in Palma, right now. And that comes as no surprise. Chef Juanjo Ramírez and his family just opened their new restaurant at Plaça de la Porta de Santa Catalina. The menu of La Mujer De Verde Palma is fully vegetarian, for the most part even vegan. And people are lining up to get a table, already.

For breakfast there’s a large variety of sweet and hearty tostadas, llonguets, pancakes and bowls. All homemade in the LMDV kitchen. Lunch comes as a weekly changing combo of appetizer and three dishes, with different options to choose from. Including a Mezze Platter with delicacies originating from the Mediterranean and the Levante.

My bright red beetroot gazpacho with fennel and black grapes is a feast for the eyes and the palate. For a change, the mezze of the week is Japanese style. Same goes for the rice pudding with passion fruit. A most delicious as well as healthy meal. True soul food that we thoroughly enjoy on the edge of the plaça. Under the eyes of Ben Jakober’s two giant granite doves, and next to the upside-down church by Dennis Oppenheim.

Chef Juanjo Ramírez was one of the founders of fabulous Bon Lloc. The first vegetarian restaurant on Mallorca had to close after 42 years in the wake of the pandemic. When Juanjo had heard the song La Mujer De Verde during a concert of the Madrilene indie band Izal, it became his inspiration for the new restaurant. LMDV, as it is officially abbreviated, somehow reminds me of a French luxury group. At LMDV, however, luxury is not defined by owning expensive things but enjoying good food. Doing well by doing good.
