Mallorca is a great place to buy new shoes. In fact, footwear has been made on the island for centuries. Today, traditional manufacturers and young creative designers can be found here alongside global industry players. The Museu del Calçat i de la Indústria, the Mallorca Shoe Museum in Inca, tells the eventful history of this long-established craft. And it shows how shoes still inspire new stories.

It’s only a few steps from popular Cafè Inca to the former army infantry barracks that have been beautifully restored. Here, the Museum of Footwear and Industry houses a permanent collection as well as changing exhibitions about shoes, shoemaking, and industry.

Shoemaking on Mallorca: A Craft with Centuries of History
The exhibits display tools and machinery from pre-industrial times up to the 20th century. Historic photographs and advertising campaigns transport visitors back to the heyday of shoemaking on Mallorca.

You’ll also find furnishings from old factory offices and a remarkable variety of footwear, from primitive sandals and working boots to high heels and welted shoes. Well-known local brands such as Camper, Carmina, and Bestard are presented next to eccentric models and historic shoes from around the world.

European Museum of the Year: An Interactive Experience
The interactive concept makes the exhibition an exciting destination for families with children. A walk through the “time tunnel” feels like stepping into a historic shoe factory, while younger visitors can design their own shoes in a small workshop.

Thanks to its engaging and imaginative approach, the Mallorca Shoe Museum has earned international recognition. And it is one of the European Museums of the Year.

Drawn Footprints: 13 Graphic Stories That Leave a Mark
Shoes don’t just belong in factories, they carry memories, moods, and moments. That idea runs through „Petjades Dibuixades — 13 Historietes amb Empremta”. The museum’s current temporary exhibition is on view until April 26, 2026.

Created in collaboration with CòmicNostrum it brings together illustrated stories that treat footwear as a quiet witness to everyday life. You find critical reflections by Bartolomé Seguí next to pieces like „Me gusto el Verano”, a comic that captures the lightness of summer. 13 works, some playful, some personal, others unexpected. Invitations to see shoes not just as objects, but as storytellers. ![]()
