Guillem Nadal: Of Salt and Ashes

Three long-tail boats are hanging from the high ceiling, artfully built from slender branches. Two of them filled with pure white salt, the third one broken, burned wood fallen to the ground. De Sal i Cendra, Of Salt and Ashes, is the title of the current exhibition at Palma’s renowned Galería Pelaires. The large canvases and fragile installations of Guillem Nadal tell stories of past and future, of beginning and end.

Guillem Nadal is one of the most famous Mallorcan artists. His work deeply inspired by Mediterranean mythology. His concern though is highly contemporary. The beauty and vulnerability of earth and mankind. In addition to salt and ash as symbols of becoming, being and passing away, he repeatedly picks up motifs of travel, of passage.
