What’s it about yoga that attracts so many people, today? When asked by a friend or colleague I find it extremely difficult to explain in words – and soon end up sounding somewhat esoteric. So I rather point out what yoga does for you: It makes you feel strong, whole and healthy. It balances you for your daily challenges, your skin and eyes become radiant, your body firm, your gait upright. And I end up recommending: Simply try yourself!
My favorite studio in Palma is Zunray Yoga. About two years ago, Francesca Zuniga and Roeland Raymakers moved their small studio from Carrer Brondo to a backyard just off splendid San Feliu where they rebuilt two garages and turned them into a beautiful airy yoga loft. The two met on a pilgrimage along the Camino de Santiago, and are a couple ever since, sharing parts of their second names – Zun+Ray, pronounced like sun ray – with their passion for yoga. Whether you’re an absolute beginner or already on your way to enlightenment, whether you love slow, energetic stretches or prefer strong, dynamic moves – you’ll find the class your are looking for. Zunray Yoga also offers lessons for children and pregnant women, and next to their great regular staff, like Saskia or Joshua, they regularly host well-known guest teachers from all over the world.
Before a class, squatting on the mats, it’s just a bunch of students, men and women of all ages, colors and languages – chatting, pre-stretching, relaxing. But the minute a lesson begins they turn into an energetic whole. Concentrating on the breath, working on the asanas and the ever satisfying state of mind that goes along with it. I almost forget to mention that it’s also a lot of fun. Yet nothing compares to your own experience, so check it out. Om shanti.
