Pictures of an exhibition: Nit de l’Art ’19

September 20, 2019September 20, 2019
Es Baluard

Tonight’s the night. Actually, it is the first out of three. Palma’s art night 2019, the Nit de l’Art ’19, has started with a couple of exciting openings. Xavier Fiol’s gallery is sparsely decorated with a series of outlined heads by Fernando Megias. What already attracts curious art lovers is the background for a dialogue between artist and visitors.  At Rialto Living Joan Aguiló is presenting “Estiu – Summer”, a series of canvasses in bright colors inspired by his own childhood. A diverse…

Veni, vidi, veggie: Bon Lloc

January 28, 2018
Bon Lloc

Sometimes I just have this craving for a burger. Fortunately there have been some great additions to the burger scene in Palma like Raimundo, Lemon Tree or the Llonguet burgers at Es Trasto Petit (formerly Can Trispol). And while Bon Lloc is not the first place you might associate with buns and patties its burger is one of my favorites. The pioneer of the good life, as I called Juanjo Ramirez in my first post in June 2015, opened his restaurant Bon Lloc decades ago. And the vegetarian paradise…

Take another little piece of my art: Art per a la vida 2

Art per a la vida 2

It’s often the small things that make a big difference. Like the fine exhibition of screen prints that was inaugurated tonight at Rialto Living. Sixty-two renowned Mallorcan artists each contributed a piece that is dedicated to the work of…

Catch of the day: Peix Vermell

June 11, 2016January 27, 2017
Peix Vermell

To be true – I’ve been cheating on marine life for many years, now. From „Find Nemo“ we know that fish are friends, not food. However, as an enthusiastic scuba diver I never had a problem admiring the fascinating neighborhood of our house reef…

Pioneer of the good life: Bon Lloc

Bon Lloc

When you try to think back Bon Lloc has always been there, right on Carrer Sant Feliu. Long before the beautiful side street next to the Borne became the catwalk of shiny happy people. However, when Juanjo Ramirez took over the restaurant in…

Walking on sunshine: Zunray Yoga

November 7, 2014May 11, 2018
Zunray Yoga

What’s it about yoga that attracts so many people, today? When asked by a friend or colleague I find it extremely difficult to explain in words – and soon end up sounding somewhat esoteric. So I rather point out what yoga does for you: It makes…

Like a movie star: Rialto Living

Rialto Living

Sauntering the gorgeous rooms of Rialto Living, I picture myself in one of the contemporary Mallorcan country houses hiding behind beautifully restored tanques, the drywalls of natural stone in the rural parts of the island. A rather…

Bea Drack called her cozy basement restaurant a tapas bar. Indeed she offers a creative mediterranean mixture of small meals. If you want to try different dishes, all of them really delicious, just go for a half portion. Two things you should…

Winds of Mallorca There‘s an old Catalan song, Winds of Mallorca

There‘s an old Catalan song, Jota Marinera, that tells about the wife of a fisherman. She was always watching the wind. Because - if it came from the east or west, she did not have to worry about her husband. But if it came from another direction she knew it could be stormy and dangerous.

Window to the sky. Sa Gerreria is one of Palma‘ Window to the sky.
Sa Gerreria is one of Palma‘s oldest neighborhoods. For many years it has also been one of the poorest. The graphic novel „Historias del Barrio“ takes us on an autobiographic time travel back to the 80‘s. More about a very moving read on EstiloPalma.com
