Window dining: La Miranda

Public places have always been the living rooms of cities. Ideally furnished with a couple of benches and shady trees, inhabited by people of all kind and ages. Parents with their children, kids meeting after school, old men chatting, elderly ladies walking their dogs and passers-by just taking a break. Even Plaça Nova de la Ferreria has become such a wonderful place lately. In addition to the traditional cafeteria and a supermarket an eco bakery and a new restaurant opened here recently. From a table next to the broad window front of La Miranda you can enjoy your lunch as well as the plaça-life.

Facundo Presentado loves to combine Latin American and Japanese flavors, inspired by his work in renowned kitchens in Peru, Mexico and Spain. His beetroot gazpacho was a colorful refreshing starter and the Bondiola de cerdo left a great spicy aftertaste. While the Argentinian chef offers a different three-course menu every week, ceviche is always part of it. My personal highlight at La Miranda are the deserts, though. Both passion fruit sorbet and tiramisu are only slightly sweet so you get the full taste of its ingredients. Delicious.

La Miranda is new in town but has already spent many years on Mallorca. Facundo and Mariú ran Casa de Sa Miranda in Valldemossa before they moved to Palma. The new restaurant soon became a popular lunch place for people working nearby as well as random guests who may become regulars. In the afternoon La Miranda offers small dishes like tostadas, soups and sandwiches. With the sun flooding through the windows and the lively atmosphere around it is a nice place to spend some time with colleagues or friends. And maybe talk about how our barrios are changing and how to preserve these places for the neighbors.
