A place to anchor: Vint

Port de Sóller has always had a close connection to France. And it were friends from Provence who told me about the beautiful new restaurant at the port. No doubt, this was the place to meet for dinner. Above fishing boats and yachts Vint opened its doors and terrace only a couple of months ago and already it attracts locals, travelers and foodies from the island.

Early October, these are the last days of the season you enjoy sitting outside on the patio. I love to watch the sea and the sky take on countless shades of blue before night falls, time and again a spectacular show. But the performance at our table is no less fancy. The food on our plates looks like small pieces of art and it tastes delicious. A feast for the eyes and a culinary delight.

Vint offers a slender menu so you can be sure everything is super fresh. For starters we chose a variation of pumpkin on orange-cardamom puree and braised lamb neck with bell pepper coulis, followed by monk fish on black-and-white risotto with spicy orange carrots and amber mackerel with lentils in a light curry sauce. Perfected by a spacy dish of warm berry ragout with roasted pine nuts and carob honey ice cream.

Some of the ingredients are grown in their own garden, Nadine told us. She is a wonderful host and makes you feel comfortable from the moment you arrive. Chef Alex, her husband, is in charge of Vint’s kitchen. Both of them also did a great job furnishing their restaurant: a plain, almost minimalist chic with natural materials. They traveled the whole island to find the things they were looking for. And love to share tips with their guests.
