In recent years, Burger joints have become extremely popular all over the world. They have nothing in common with the fast food chains that used to define the taste of hamburgers and cheeseburgers in the past. From Quina Creu to Patrón Lunares, Es Rebost, or Canela – to name but a few – a lot of restaurants in Palma offer one or two burger specials, and even chefs like Santi Taura or Marc Fosh occasionally include a small burger variation in their fancy menus. Lemon Tree also focuses on hamburguesas gourmet – and beer, the drink that goes best with burger and fries.

The bar next to Molta Barra in the heart of Sa Gerreria attracts a young international crowd – in particular on the weekend and on Tuesday nights for La Ruta Martiana, when they mingle with the locals. Besides the obligatory caña (tap beer) you can order buckets full of beer bottles, handy if you come along with friends. Standing around with a drink in your hand because the seats are already taken, it feels like being at a party. You don’t know the host but it doesn’t matter anyway because you just met someone interesting.

People, drinks and the vibrant atmosphere are probably the main reasons to come here. But the burgers are just as attractive. You can choose between 12 different styles: with meat, vegetarian and even vegan, accompanied by chunky fries or some side salad. It’s always hard to make up my mind – but one of my sure favorites is the spicy Mexican burger with jalapeños and guacamole. Energy-wise the perfect basis for my mountain cycling trip the next day.
