Insula Crafts - design objects made in Mallorca

Cristina Lozano had studied arts and fashion in London before she got a job at Camper, one of the most famous Mallorcan brands. And very soon, she fell in love with the island. Inspired by its light and colors, she started to design some beautiful pottery and founded her own label Insula Crafts – now available in her online store. Tonight, Cristina proudly presented her first line at Gallery Calatrava.

Aquamarine as the waters of Cala Santanyi, off-white as the sky on a hot summer’s day, or of a dark blue starless night above the Tramuntana – the three colors that her collection starts with. All made in Mallorca, of course, in a manufactory in Pórtol, center of the island’s traditional potteries for more than 200 years.

I fell in love with her light blue salad bowl right away. It’s the most beautiful aquamarine, and the shape of the bowl ist just perfect. Insula Crafts offers to customize plates and bowls. You can have your initials on the bottom, a dedication to or just the name of a friend you like to treat. Pottery is just a start, Cristina told me, she is already thinking bigger, with ideas for more products – inspired by, designed and made on the island.
