Bon Lloc: Pioneer of the Good Life

**** After 42 years, Bon Lloc closed its doors for good in January 2021. We terribly miss it. But two great new projects have emerged from it: Ca n’Ela and La Mujer De Verde. ****

When you try to think back Bon Lloc has always been there, right on Carrer Sant Feliu. Long before the beautiful side street next to the Borne became the catwalk of shiny happy people. However, when Juanjo Ramírez took over the restaurant in the late eighties the restaurant was located in a small side street near Sant Francesc. And vegetarian cooking was still pretty much avantgarde, particularly on an island that strongly favors meat and fish. Today, the meatless kitchen has moved into mainstream and Bon Lloc is highly frequented by all sorts of people. And this is not only because they fancy a healthy diet but because they appreciate the most delicate food.

Bon Lloc’s menu is an imaginative read of dishes that come with witty subtitles. Among my favorites are Babaganoush (This eggplant paté should be declared world heritage. Pure mediterranean essence.), raw beet root ravioli (One day, the kitchen will be art – Salvador Dali -. He already dreamt with this plate.) and Seitan Tikka Massala (Authentic Indian cuisine. You won’t be able to stop eating.). But there is much more to discover. While for lunch you are being served a light four-course meal, with a couple of options to chose from, at night chef Toni Rodriguez offers a mostly vegan haute cuisine à la carte.

Either way, your taste buds will rejoice, and your eyes get a fair share, too. Bon Lloc’s atmosphere makes you feel at ease and the bright colors inside bring a sense of nature, life and sun to your mind. The name by the way is catalan and simply means „the good place“ – and that’s exactly what it is.
