When you are upset or tired – and who isn’t these days – it’s good to remember those magic places. A small bay like Cala Pi, with that Mediterranean blue and green on the white sand. Framed by steep cliffs and seasoned with the scent of pine trees in the sun and a salty breeze from the sea. A little escape from the world where you can just sit and watch until the sun sets. But it’s worth following the narrow path that starts right behind the boat house. And take the fabulous walk along the coast from Cala Pi to Cap Blanc.

On first sight the dry scrubland doesn’t look so spectacular. Nonetheless I love the garrigue. The trees bent by the wind, the small flowers. Maybe you spot one of the shy tortoises in their natural habitat. And discover the many details along the rocky path.

Even that stretch where you cross nothing but plain rock sparks my imagination. It looks like the desert, or even Mars. Finally you see the white cliffs in the distance that gave name to the cape.

The route leads close along the drop-off so don’t get too distracted. Once you reach the former military area it’s only a few more minutes to the ancient watchtower and the lighthouse of Cap Blanc.

Enjoy a break in the lee of the tower that has been protecting this part of the coast for more than 400 years. A firm reminder that on Mallorca, too, life hasn’t always been as peaceful as it seems. Today, you can just climb up the iron ladder and feel like being on the lookout for pirates.

Back at Cala Pi I often love to stay a little bit longer. Go for a swim. Or just watch the reflection of the evening sun sparkling on the surface of the sea. The sunset never fails to ensure us that there will be a new day, tomorrow.
