Where the Heart Is: COR Barra i Taula

For many years gourmets from all over Mallorca came to Lloseta to dine at Santi Taura’s. His restaurant of the same name used to have long waiting lists, and with DINS he took his culinary concept even further. Last year, the charismatic chef moved DINS to Palma and also opened a new tapas restaurant in the heart of town. COR Barra i Taula is located right next to popular Mercat de l’Olivar, and it treats you with a nice choice of traditional local dishes. Refined to a modern taste, and with an unmistakable twist.

Try the albóndigas, the typical Mallorcan meatballs, and you know what I am talking about. Made from grilled lamb seasoned with yoghurt and brava. Simple ingredients turned into perfection. Santi’s tapas are the essence of experiments, experience, and enthusiasm. In addition to the regular menu COR offers changing specials. The cerdo negro went nicely with the lechuga romana aliñada con melón y cebolla roja. And a hot chocolate casserole with peanut ice cream perfectly topped our dinner.

Santi Taura belongs to the generation of Mallorcan chefs who have taken Mediterranean cuisine to a new level. Like Maria Solivellas in Caimari, Joan Marc in Inca, or Maca de Castro in Port de Alcúdia. They rely on ancient family recipes, work with regional and seasonal ingredients. And enrich them or reduce them to the essential. But most of all they work with passion, con corazón. No wonder, Santi Taura called his new restaurant COR – heart. Celebrating its first anniversary this week, COR Barra i Taula is already one of the best tapas places in Palma.
